Super Visa for Parents & Grandparents
This special program for Parents & Grandparents of Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents enables your elders to come to Canada and stay with you for an extended period. Super Visa is especially beneficial for people who do not yet qualify for sponsorship, or who do not wish to wait for the longer processing times of sponsorship applications.
Super Visa is a 10 year visa that allows multiple visits of up to 2 years per visit. 10 years although, is not guaranteed and the visa can be issued as valid until the date your passport expires. Before applying for a Super Visa, you must meet the income threshold and be willing to buy an upfront 1 year medical insurance for your parents/grandparents. Below are the requirements for this process:
- Invitation letter written & signed by the child or grandchild who is inviting. Letter must include
- Promise of financial support for the entire duration of stay
- Number of people in their household (for income threshold assessment)
- Attach a proof of Citizenship or PR
- Buy an upfront medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company, with a validity of minimum 1 year from the date of entry, with a coverage of minimum $100,000 and proof that policy has been paid for (purchased)
- At the time of application, your Parent/Grandparent must be outside Canada
- Parents/Grandparents must take an upfront medical examination from an IRCC panel physician
- Meet other conditions of IRPA, IRPR; and be admissible to Canada
Income threshold for Super visa application
You must meet the below invoice threshold. Family size includes yourself, your spouse, dependent children, persons you sponsored previously and have an undertaking still in effect, along with your Parents/Grandparents that you are inviting (with their spouse, even if only 1 parent is coming).
